Orientation
New Member Orientation
Prospective members schedule an orientation meeting with club Director of Membership or another Board member. The session takes about an hour and covers club and park policies as well as a competency test. New members will be asked to:
Remove a single from the racks, carry it to the docks, and launch.
Scull upstream within the sight of the docks, turn 180˚, back the shell, and possibly perform other maneuvers.
Return to the dock, carry the shell back to boathouse, and return it to the racks.
Members must show that they can scull competently and move shells in and out of the racks without damaging them.
OBC does not administer a flip test, as swimming is not allowed in the reservoir.
Prospective members should look over the OBC Handbook, Know Before You Row, and Code of Conduct before orientation.
