DIRECTIONS

South of Washington DC: To reach Sandy Run, take I-95 south of the Beltway, exit at Lorton Road, turn right on Lorton, turn right on Furnace Road, right again on Ox Road (Route 123), left on Hampton Road, turn left on Van Thompson and follow it to the park entrance.

PLEASE NOTE: There is extensive roadwork being conducted on ROUTE 123. Also, upon arriving at the park you will be asked to pay a park entrance fee.

PARKING

Parking is very limited given the number of competitors and visitors. Each vehicle will be charged the park fee to enter the park and once ALL spots are used within the park we will divert traffic to our Satellite parking lot(listed below). Most lots will be FILLED by 10:00AM and will be diverted to other lots.

NOTE: Athletes and coaches are given first priority when attending this event. You should arrive at LEAST two hours before your event to ensure you are on time for your event.

SATELLITE PARKING

There are various tiers of parking available for HOTO. These tiers differ in both their proximity to Sandy Run Park and their fee for parking. The several lots that are in Sandy Run proper have a $10 per car parking fee and are expected to fill by 10 AM. The lot at the intersection of Van Thompson Rd. and Hampton Rd. also has a $10 per car parking fee and is expected to fill by 11AM.

If you are arriving at HOTO after 11AM, you are advised to go directly to the Satellite Parking lot at the intersection of Route 123 and Old Bridge Rd. (the old Hechinger’s lot). Parking in this lot is free; however, the round trip shuttle bus charge is $5 per carload. Shuttle buses will begin running from the Van Thompson lot at 9AM. Shuttle buses will run continually between the Satellite Lot and Sandy Run beginning at 9:30AM. Shuttle bus service will be available until all visitors have returned to the Satellite Lot (we anticipate this will be by 6PM or shortly after).

BEST AREAS TO REVIEW THE RACE

The viewing areas for the Head of the Occoquan are limited but good. The finish line has been moved to right in front of Sandy Run(at the bottom of the hill of Sandy Run Regional Park, next to the flag pole). and there is a limited amount of space to view rowers as they complete the finish. You should NOT take any walking trails and none of them offer a better view of the race.

Additionally, please stay clear of all dock space as this is reserved for rowers.
