he Occoquan Boat Club (OBC) was founded in 1979. Conceived and formally organized by Rick Evans, the club was established to represent independent oarsmen rowing on the Occoquan Reservoir. OBC's stated purpose is to recruit new members interested in rowing, sponsor crew races, send teams to regattas, and generally support rowing in Northern Virginia and Mid-Atlantic Region. With over 180 members, OBC supports all levels of rowers from the first-time novice sculler to the competitive sweep rower. We welcome all interested scullers or rowers to review the information provided and join us on Occoquan Reservoir.

Occoquan Boat Club's home is on the Occoquan Reservoir which provides drinking water to the majority of Northern Virginia residents. Behind the Dam, the Occoquan is long, narrow and well protected from wind by trees. You can row from the Dam to Bull Run Park Marina at Yates Ford Bridge - more than 10 miles one way. Our only landmarks are the Race Course, Sandy Run Regional Park, the Prince William Boathouse(which is called Oxford House), Jacob's Rock, Fountainhead Regional Park, Ryan's Dam, and the Red House. OBC maintains an enviable selection of boats for our members to use and all are stored in boathouses one and two at Sandy Run Regional Park. The club has over 19 shells and all are identified with red and black striping on the bow. These include singles, doubles, sweep fours and sculling quads. To learn more about about's what's available and how to get access to these shells, please feel freee to check out our boating information.

OBC also supports many rowing camps, clinics and regattas in our area. Our annual support of many of these programs has provided OBC members access to several well respected coaches and to one of the largest year end regattas in the United States. To find our more about the types of programs we offer, please visit our rowing program area.

We hope you take the opportunity to visit the Occoquan River and OBC. As one of the premier rowing venues in the United States we feel priveleged to be one of the very few clubs that supports both sweep and sculling for all age and skill levels.
